state summary

Max Storms proved that maximum performance at state has become a given. His 32oo meter run on Friday night was a 10 second improvement on his personal best from the KU Relays, where he turned in a 9:37. His mile splits at state were nearly identical as he turned in a first mile of 4:43 and a second mile of 4:44. He entered the last lap tied for first with Swearingen of Potosi. Swearingen took the title with a 61 last lap, and Max held second with a 68. The 1600 meter run on Saturday afternoon would be another story. No one wanted to lead the race so it was a mad sprint during the last lap. He ran a 62 and ended up 6th.

Bryce Dennis was appearing in his first state meet ever in the discus. Bryce's personal best going into state during the 2008 season was 148'10. Bryce hit the foul pole with his first throw and this completely upset him. Because of the state format, where four throwers take all their throws, Bryce was never able to get back in sync. His next three throws fell way short of what
he had done all season. Coach Martin was truly proud of Bryce's hard work all season and his entering the O'Hara Track Hall of Fame. His winning the district championship in the shot put
was the highlight of the season.
